A tiny, safe amount of radiotracer (such as Technetium-99m or Radioactive Iodine I-131) is administered and naturally absorbed by thyroid tissue. No. Fasting is not required. Please bring fresh T3, T4, and TSH blood test reports and follow medication instructions (hold Neomercazole for 5 days & Thyronorm for 3 weeks).
Q: Can pregnant women undergo a Thyroid Scan?
We generally do not perform Thyroid Scans during pregnancy unless specifically advised by your treating physician.
